Assign Variables in Topics then pass to Topic Block

I wanted to assign the priority and eventually the assignment group and category in the Topic then pass it to the Topic block for ticket creation.  Do I assign it via the Script variable on the left?    The second screen shows where I added the variable priority.

Or is this the wrong place to assign the priority?
