HI,
We have created a custom field 'Popular' in knowledge article form. when ever this field is checked, the article is shown in the portal from the widget 'Simple List'.
When the newer version of the article is created, the fields of older version article becomes read only and this custom field is not unchecking. Hence it is displaying both the versions in the portal.
Ideally it should show only newer version of the article when the article is updated.
can you please let us know hoe to fix this ?

Hi @Thej1,
You can add another line of condition/filter in the Simple List widget.
Something like -
Older versions of the articles should be set to retired, hence the above condition leaves you with the published or the most recent articles only.
Cheers

As you've tagged me, I want to point out that there is OOB functionality for popular articles rather than introducing custom logic.
Portal Widget: Knowledge Featured Articles
Mechanism: On knowledge articles add the related list 'Knowledge keywords'. You can specify new keywords for different purposes (e.g popular in your usecase) and then have these filtered and shown on the portal
