When clicking a link to a KB article in chat the chat session is closed.

I have an issue where when a user clicks on a KB article when using Live Agent Chat the article opens in a new tab. The chat session within that new tab restarts the chat session thus closing the existing chat in the originating window.
(Ignore the message that all agents are busy in the primary window. It does the same thing even when an agent is participating.)
