Introduction

In today's fast-paced business environment, automation plays a crucial role in driving efficiency and productivity. ServiceNow's RPA Hub offers powerful capabilities to create and manage robotic process automation (RPA) bots, enabling organizations to automate repetitive tasks with ease. One of the key features of ServiceNow RPA Hub is the ability to migrate bot processes and associated assets seamlessly from one environment to another.

Overview of Bot Process Migration

Bot process migration in ServiceNow RPA Hub allows you to move a bot process from any environment—whether it's a development, testing, or staging environment—to another environment with minimal effort. This capability is especially valuable when you've developed and tested an automation in a lower environment and are ready to deploy it in a higher or production environment.

For instance, a bot process is thoroughly tested and ready for deployment, an RPA developer or administrator can trigger the migration by selecting the "Ready for Migration" button on the published bot process. This action makes the "Migrate" button visible, allowing an RPA release manager or administrator to initiate the migration process.

Once the migration is complete, the release manager can make necessary adjustments, such as configuring process parameters relevant to target environment, mapping credentials, and associating the bot process with the appropriate records before publishing it on the target environment.

What’s Migrated with the Bot Process

When migrating a bot process, both attended and unattended processes include various records and assets to ensure the automation functions correctly in the new environment.

For unattended bot processes, the following are migrated:

- Bot process configuration

- Packages and package versions with attachments

- Process parameters

- Shared process parameters

- Schedules

- Queues

- Associated skills

For attended bot processes, in addition to the items mentioned above, the following are also migrated:

- Process field parameters (if Embedded Task Automation is enabled)

- Attended configurations (if Embedded Task Automation is enabled)

Conclusion

ServiceNow RPA Hub's migration feature is a game-changer for organizations looking to scale their automation efforts efficiently. By enabling seamless migration of bot processes and associated assets, this feature ensures that your automation workflows are consistent across different environments and ready for production deployment. Whether you're an RPA developer, administrator, or release manager, this tool simplifies the process of moving automations from development to production, allowing you to focus on creating impactful and efficient bots.
