"Get over here!" - Scorpion

Recap

We talked about extracting and updating ERP data through ERP Canvas. There are use cases that do not allow staging of data due to reasons such as security. Let us now cover how you can get ERP data quickly and directly without staging or extracting data.

For whom is this series?

You would find this series useful:

  • If you're a business leader who's tired of slow, manual processes, this is for you.
  • If you're a business user who spends way too much time copy-pasting data between SAP and ServiceNow, keep reading.
  • If you're a ServiceNow developer who wants to integrate SAP data without the headache of complex interfaces, you're in the right place.

Ready to get started?

We've created an interactive guide that walks you through the process step by step. You can find it here.

This guide covers four components that need to be created. We are continuing to improve the process and make it more convenient for developers in the future. The components are:

  • ERP Canvas data model

  • Remote table

  • Remote table definition

  • ERP Canvas remote table entry

The remote table created here can be used in flows and applications later on. The query input and output fields for the remote tables can be quickly modified using ERP Canvas.

The procedure here will use an OData endpoint as source for the remote table. OData is the protocol used by many web-based applications and platforms such as SAP and Oracle. The steps here also apply for RFC or BAPI endpoints if you are connecting to older SAP systems such as ECC.

Don't worry, it's easier than it sounds! The guide is designed to be user-friendly, with clear instructions and helpful tips. Just a heads up, we'll be using 'ERP Data Hub' and 'ERP Canvas' interchangeably. They refer to the same thing.

Conclusion

And there you have it! You've just created your first SAP real-time read model, ready to power your ServiceNow workflows and apps. We're always working to make this process even smoother, and we appreciate your feedback on how we can improve. Stay tuned for more updates in future releases!
