"Are we there yet?" - my daughter during road trips
Recap
We talked about extracting and updating ERP data through ERP Canvas as well as accessing data online through remote tables. We will cover Parts 3 and 4 of the Intelligent ERP Workflow blog series together to give you a complete view of both flow and app creation; after all, a robust user interface and underlying logic make for a great and functional app experience.
- Part 1 of 4 - Intelligent ERP Workflows: Get SAP data into ServiceNow and vice versa (the easy way)
- Part 2 of 4 - Intelligent ERP Workflows: Real-time SAP data read in your ServiceNow apps
- Part 3 of 4 - Intelligent ERP Workflows: Using SAP data to power your ServiceNow workflows
- Part 4 of 4 - Intelligent ERP Workflows: Building your first app that talks to SAP
For whom is this series?
You would find this series useful:
- If you're a business leader who's tired of slow, manual processes, this is for you.
- If you're a business user who spends way too much time copy-pasting data between SAP and ServiceNow, keep reading.
- If you're a ServiceNow developer who wants to integrate SAP data without the headache of complex interfaces, you're in the right place.
Ready to get started?
You will require to upload predefined data in an XLSX file which will be used by the app. You can find the XLSX file attached in this blog (also here).
We've created an interactive guide that walks you through the process step by step. You can find it here.
This guide covers five components that need to be created to complete your first ERP Workflow App that makes use of OData protocol. You have done done similar steps in Part 2 in creating a remote table but you will need to revisit those steps here. The components are:
-
ERP Canvas Data Model
-
Remote Table Configuration
-
App Scope
-
Request Table
- Record Producer
- Flow
We are continuing to improve the process and make it more convenient for developers in the future. This guide will also undergo some revisions to align Parts 2 and this final two parts.
Don't worry, it's easier than it sounds! The guide is designed to be user-friendly, with clear instructions and helpful tips. Just a heads up, we'll be using 'ERP Data Hub' and 'ERP Canvas' interchangeably. They refer to the same thing.
Conclusion
And that's it! You've just created your first ERP App in ServiceNow's app engine. You will find that the more workflows you create, the pattern and steps will be very similar. Activities such as writing back to SAP were not covered in this series but note that it is supported in the platform. Stay tuned for blog posts that will focus on writing back to SAP.
We're always working to make this process even smoother, and we appreciate your feedback on how we can improve. Stay tuned for more updates in future releases!
