Hi Team,
I am @Sahu_am, a Java developer, and I want to learn and grow my career in ServiceNow. I have no idea how to get started, which NowLearning courses to follow, and what the best path is. I need proper guidance on how a beginner should start, including a roadmap. Additionally, I would like to know if transitioning to ServiceNow is a good choice given my background in Java development.
Solved! Go to Solution.

- In my team, we all started afresh on ServiceNow and let me share the experience.
Register on NowLearning platform : ServiceNow - Now Learning - Start with "Welcome to ServiceNow" course and try to complete the micro-certification for the same.
- It will give you fair idea about the platform and how things work and how easily by following the courses with hands-on practice, you would learn. The scope of learning and exploring the platform is huge. I come from an Intelligent Automation background with experience in programming and RPA/OCR tools implementation and ServiceNow has 10x things to explore and learn.
- There are a lot of applications(products) which are in use and ITSM is the legacy one for which ServiceNow is popular. Now, there are other products getting popularity like GRC (IRM) suite of applications, which itself has a lot of applications for Risk Mgmt, Compliance mgmt, Third-party risk management and many more like IT service mgmt, HR, Software Asset Mgmt, Hardware Asset Mgmt etc.
- Explore the product aligned to your current domain experience because domain knowledge would help you understand and co-relate the things : ServiceNow Products
- You may start with CSA (certified System Administrator) certification from NowLearning which is the stepping stone for all practitioners to uncover features and capabilities of ServiceNow Platform (instance)
- Continuing to CAD (Certified Application Development) which is more technical and advance concepts where you will learn customization of the instance. If you get through this, you will enjoy your programming experience being used here.
- Once CSA and CAD is done, you may want to do at least one Implementation certification (CIS) based on your interest of domain (as mentioned ITSM, Risk and Compliance, SecOps - VR/SIR, TPRM or any other)
- Hands-on practice is a must.
Happy Learning !!

Hi,
My Recommendation will be Join any Proper Training of Servicenow from any working professional. After your Training - go through few youtube channels, Now learning and other Learning materials (ServiceNow documentation/ Developer site). Once you will follow that and do the practical you will be ready to start your journey as a SN professional.
Regards,
Nikhil Bajaj

@Sahu_am It is completely fine for a Java developer (or developer from any tech stack) to build a career in ServiceNow. I used to work in a different tech stack couple of years back and switched to ServiceNow, except few syntax nothing much changed in terms of the technical implementation. Earlier I used to code in Swift now it is java script.
I recommend you to register on Now learning portal https://nowlearning.servicenow.com/lxp and explore the career journeys which matches with your career goals.
