Business Applications, Application Service, and Affected Application

I'm currently getting buy-in from our Senior Management regarding the CMDB, however I cannot for the life of me understand where the following fits in:

On our Incident table, each incident has a "Configuration Item" field (Presumably, this is the "Application" at fault, e.g. "sql-database@servername" or is it the "Application Service"? e.g. Live/Dev/Test Sharepoint, or is it the "Business Application", e.g. Sharepoint).

It then has the "Affected application" field, where does this fit in given that the "Application" has just been outlined in the "Configuration Item" field?

We have multiple "Applications" available for selection on the "Affected Application" field, but none of them appear to link to anything. They're all Application of the type Resource.


I've read all the CSDM and CMDB stuff I can, but none of it is easy to understand.

Greetings!!

 

In CI field , agree you can add a CI ( Server / Infra) or any application Service and based on same it populate the affected CI / Impacted Services / CI list. 

 I can see the Application Services:

Is this you looking or my understanding is wrong.

'Service', 'Service offering' and 'Configuration Item' are the fields related to CMDB which are available OOB on the incident form. Apart from these, there are 'Affected CIs' and 'Impacted Services' tabs available on the related list. Can you check in the dictionary for the details of this 'Affected Application' field? It would be either a custom field or an OOB field whose 'Column label' was changed.
