Hi Team,
I'm working on discovering a Network devices and ended in error. In Shazzam probe, port 161 is not opened and while contacting Network team, they told "This will be icmp and not SNMP" . ICMP is not a standard port probe as per Discovery documentation. Please advice.

Hi,
ICMP is not using ports at all. It's a protocol like TCP and UCP. It will not carry any information about the devices which Discovery is all about.
ICMP is used in commands like ping and traceroute and will give you information about the network traffic, not the devices.
Regards,
Niklas

Hi Suvetha,
Yes, without SNMP we cant fo anything for NW discovery. With ICMP we will get to know only device availablity status. Without SNMP we cant discover the device. If not possible then we need to chk other possibilities...
