Certification Role Write access to CMDB

I need to have ITIL restricted to Read-Only access to the CMDB.  I'm having an issue around the 'certification' role which is given to ITIL and allows for write access to the cmdb_ci table via an ACL.  I'm using a Configuration Management role to have CRUD access to CMDB.  Does anyone have any information on what the best way to get to my desired state of ITIL being read-only to CMDB.  Would it be best to moved the certification role from ITIL to my configuration managers?  What would be the potential issue for just removing the certification role ACL from the cmdb table?

Thanks!
