Hi @Rajesh77,
ServiceNow does not enforce a single OOTB naming convention for CIs. The recommended approach is to define a standard based on environment, location, and uniqueness.
Ex conventions:
On-Prem Servers
<Site>-<Environment>-<ServerRole>-<Sequence>
NYC-PRD-WEB-001
LON-DEV-DB-002
Azure Servers
AZ-<Subscription>-<Environment>-<ServerRole>-<Sequence>
AZ-FIN-PRD-APP-001
AZ-HR-DEV-WEB-002
Laptops
<Laptop>-<Location>-<AssetTag>
LAP-NYC-100123
LAP-LON-100456
Desktops
<Desktop>-<Location>-<AssetTag>
DT-NYC-200123
DT-LON-200456
Endpoints (General)
<EndpointType>-<Location>-<UniqueID>
EP-NYC-300123
Best practices
- Keep names unique and meaningful.
- Include environment (PRD, DEV, TEST) where applicable.
- Avoid using usernames, as devices can be reassigned.
- Align naming standards across CMDB, Discovery, and Asset Management.
