Hello All,
Am searching for some valid inputs on the CMDB CI status with respect to the below fields :
-Operational Status
-Install Status
-Life Cycle Stage
-Life Cycle Stage Status
i need to understand , what is the OOTB logic(reference scripts,BRs..etc) used within CMDB where the CI gets a particular Operational or Install Status (based on discovered CIs'), i am searching for definitions related to each state of Operational/Install Status on CIs, if someone has a valid reference (as i could not find them in docs), would really be helpful.

I would add Compliance to that list. When companies are faced with the need to comply with contractual or regulatory policies that involve configuration of assets, and the fees and repercussions of failing an audit, people's minds and checkbooks start to open to the needs of configuration management. That said, bridging the gap between configuration data and compliance objectives does present additional challenges and requires expanding our perspectives and tools to include Integrated Risk Management practices.

I agree completely. And not only regulatory or contractual compliance but also any Security Compliance your organization may have. Are your CIs compliant with your Nomenclature Standards. We can go on and on. Completeness, Correctness and Compliance are all required controlling aspects of any CMDB.

isnt this driven by asset management?
why not have them go to the asset records to see those asset states?
what use cases support the install_status field on a CI record, eg. server? I would think that operational_status should be on CI form but not install_status.
