CMDB Relationship Paths

I'm struggling with some things I see when I am drilling into various CIs in terms of Down Stream and Upstream relationships. This is becoming more important because we have completed a lot of Service mapping down to the Server level but downstream of the server level, things get weird IMO. How should one expect to see a database stack?

Service Depends on Server Hosts Instance contains Db? What exactly should that whole path look like?

Why Would I have a Windows Server running a SQL Database and the path looks like this?

It seems to me that a Database Instance is downstream? My context is that I have to have a Windows Server before I can have a SQL Instance, and then again, I have to have a SQL instance to have a Db. And btw, where are the Databases? an Instance either contains, runs or hosts a Db. WHere is that?

I am also not understanding how a Windows server is upstream of the VM or the ESXi host?
