Dear Experts,
I have the following use case
We have CMDB data updated in the table through a different data source. Now, we are running discovery on the existing data. As a test what I saw is that initially the discovery was creating a new line item of the same CI. The identifier rules were also in place as following.
When I changed the name of the existing CI with the name of the new discovered CI and deleted the newly created CI, and ran the discovery it only updated the existing CI and updated the Serial number table as well with the correct information.
My question here is:
How can I prevent discovery creating a new entry for an existing CI and
How can I use the Serial number table to my advantage so that a manual entry of a SN in the Serial Number table can be used by the discovery to update an existing record ?
Please note : A manual entry of a Serial number is being ignored
A quick help is appreciated.

You should check the IRE rules for particular class, Also discovering fetching information and serial number based o Pattern Hence you need to ignore the manual update of Serial Number
Also you can merge the both CI like Manually created or Discovered one instead deleting the same.
Thanks

Thank you Ajay for your reply. Do you mean that I should deactivate the Serial Number Identification rule ?
When you say merge, are you directing to the de-duplication tasks ?

You need to go to CI class manager, open the required CI class and then click on 'Identification rules' to view the identification rules (these are to determine the CI identifiers) for that class and 'Reconciliation rules' to view the reconciliation rules (these are to determine the data sources which are allowed to update and their priority) for that class. Modify these as per your requirements. Following URLs have details on identification rules and reconciliation rules:
