HAM for non-IT assets

Hi,

More and more we are requested to register and maintain non-IT Assets like desks, chairs but also air conditioners, lightning equipment and so on. For several Working from Home projects this requirements becomes more and more a prio topic.

As far as I know there is no OOB solution to do this. Does anyone created a solution? I am thinking of creating specific Product Model classes and categories, specific Asset table (from alm_asset) and specific CI tables (from cmdb_ci) for such items. Also the Asset <>CI sync table should be extended for this.

In this way basically all ITSM and Ham/ Ham Pro processes should work or not??

Looking forward to your suggestions.

Many thanks in advance,

Ed - you're on the right lines. We used the Facility Asset class and created new model categories underneath alm_facility. Where appropriate, we created new product models and linked them to the appropriate categories. I'm not sure why you would need to extend the Asset<>CI sync - my working assumption is that you wouldn't want to create CIs from facility asset records, but stranger things have happened!

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply. The reason that I think CI's should be created is that also Facility objects like desks, chairs, lightning equipment, airconditioners and so on Cases, Incidents, Changes etc. will be  created as also these elements require service management.

So in general: I have a strong believe that all the procedures that are valid for IT elements are also valid for non-IT elements.

How are you guys dealing with ticket creation on non-IT elements while not creating CI's for them? Do you create for example Incidents on non-IT elements? If not, how are you servicing these element?

Looking forward to your reactions,

Cheers,

Hi Ed,

Did you happen to implement this requirement? I am also looking to similar implementation.

Any information would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

BK

Hi BK,

We did not progress on this topic yet. A way to go we are exploring is to start using the asset classes and cmdb tables that are now available for Enterprise Asset Management although the implementation of EAM is not considered yet..
