Looking for Official Definitions – "Managed by Group", "Managed by", and "Owned by"

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to find the official ServiceNow definitions for the following CMDB fields:

• Managed by Group
• Managed by
• Owned by

We work with multiple clients, and each has a different interpretation of these fields. To ensure consistency, I’m looking for official documentation or references from ServiceNow (preferably from docs.servicenow.com) that clearly define these attributes.

If anyone has direct links or can point me to the right place in the docs, I’d really appreciate it!

I don’t think there’s any standard designation for this, but you can check in Now Create or CSDM process documents — you might find some reference there.
Overall, as the name suggests, “Managed by” typically refers to the team or individual handling the operational management (often infra-related), whereas “Owned by” or “Actual Owner” indicates the person accountable for the service or item overall.

We have used 'Managed by' as the primary Assignment Group responsible to maintain the service/CI, 'Managed by' as the name of the SME (subject matter expert) within the Managed by Assignment Group, and 'Owned by' as the name of the person responsible for the Service/CI from the Business.
