Model for Managed vs. Unmanaged data in CMDB

Anyone have a categorization model or association model for managed vs. unmanaged data in ServiceNow? ex: certificates, apps, servers, etc. I'm looking for a way to categorize or associate what is managed vs. unmanaged.

Managed: managed by IT

Unmanaged: managed by the Business - outside IT support and control.

Hi Daniel,

Interesting question. According to CSDM, the "Managed by Group" reference should be used to define which team or group is responsible for maintaining the data within your CMDB.

You are probably looking for a more high-level split between responsibilities, but this could be achieved with a parent group structure if planning to use Managed by Group for this.

I would anyways refer to some organizational structures or other Foundation Data instead of inventing a choice list that's basically just a predefined free text field.

Looking forward to hearing other ideas on this topic.

Best regards,

Ps. our Data Content Manager Built on Now app might be something to look for those "Managed CIs".
