Notes field in CI records

Hello all question,
Ive noticed in the CI records that there isnt a field where one can place "notes".
I see the Comments box and the Description box. However i dont think these will do what i need them to do.
1. Is there a text limit on what one can enter into these two boxes
2. Once i enter my comments and either update or save - will this box be cleared and ready for new comments whilst storing the comments in the activities log or something to that effect?
We have a previous data base we have moved away from. In that data base there is alot of good historical data that is stored in each CIs "notes" field. Id like to somehow bring this into the new CI record in SN.

OOTB it doesn't, journal fields comments/worknotes are more for adding notes to cases and are OOTB on Task based tables rather than records such as CIs, but if needed you can add a new journal input field.
