Extremely late reply, but one of the courses mentioned an example orphan workflow that would attempt to discover a CI when launched. I would tread cautiously if you were considering making the workflow execution fully automated, as it can easily overload your instance with discovery runs if you have a lot of orphans. To circumvent that, what I have seen is a workflow activity to automatically insert the CI's IP address into a discovery schedule.
