Request for Creating a CI for Internal Communications

We have a requirement in ServiceNow to create a Configuration Item (CI) specifically for sending internal communications. As per our current setup, it appears that a service offering is typically required for the CI to retrieve associated contacts.

 

However, our use case is quite simple—we only need a standalone CI that stores a list of internal email addresses, without any linkage to a service offering or other dependencies.

 

Could you please confirm if it's possible to create a new CI class for this purpose?

But how will you store the email ID in a CI
Also, an important question—what class will this CI belong to?

From what I understand, your goal is to send communication. In that case, why not use the Targeted Communication module in ServiceNow? It’s designed exactly for this purpose.

Thanks @Dr Atul G- LNG , yes that could be a good option to choose. 

 

So there is no way to send just a an email to internal users? 

 

For customer's communication we have CMDB where we are creating Application CI and with the help of Service Offering, it will get the contact list under outages module but for internal user's we don't have any kind of service offering associated. 

 

We just want to send a notification to internal users.

It depends on when you want to send the email. I would suggest exploring the targeted communication.
