Hi @RA00755856,
it's quite unclear question.. would you like to be developer, architect, project owner, or what role with a focus on CMDB? It's like asking "how to be a good with cars?" - do you want to drive the cars, review the cars, repair them or all of it...? How do you define expert in your perspective?
You should first know what you want to become and then to find paths to it.
You can take any of these trainings at SN University:
- Configuration Management Database (CMDB) Fundamentals¨
- Configuration Management Database (CMDB) Fundamentals On Demand
Änd combine them with these predefined paths:
- System Admin
- App Developer
- Platform Owner
- Implementer
- Technical Project Manager
- Business Process Analyst
- Support Specialist
- App Specialist
- Architect
- Developer
- Implementer
- Pre-sales Expert
- Sales Expert
- System Admin
Also, don't forget that CMDB isn't separated area, it's always good to have some solid knowledge of ITSM, eventually ITOM, and learn the concept of CSDM.
Best of luck on your CMDB journey!

Hi @RA00755856
The word expert is big—it comes with experience and continuous learning. Being a ServiceNow trainer, I can say that you should start slowly and move forward step by step. With time and practical exposure, you will definitely become an expert.
ServiceNow recently launched a new certification called CIS – Data Foundations (DF), which focuses mainly on CMDB and CSDM. You can consider this certification. I’m generally not in favor of going for certifications immediately, but from a learning perspective, this one is a good starting point.
There are also a few micro-certifications related to CMDB and CSDM. Currently, all on-demand courses are free of cost, so you can take advantage of them. For the main CIS exam, you will need to pay.
Second point: While you are learning, also spend time in dedicated forums. Post your questions, and also spend at least 1–2 hours daily reviewing new questions that others have posted. Try to answer them, and if you cannot, see how other members respond. This will help you gain more practical knowledge and understand real use cases.
Good luck, and keep learning!
