What is the best way to relate all VMs of an AWS account to an Application Service CI?

Dear community,

we have the Azure and AWS Service Graph Connector running fine and want to relate the VMs to Application Service CIs (cmdb_ci_service_auto CIs) to get all related VMs at least daily updated and connected to our applications.

First we created the relations manually for the most important VMs, then we have set up Dynamic CI Groups for the most important accounts with a query that looks for the specific account id in the instance id.

Both of these are only working up to a limited number of very important items, then it gets unmanagable.

What is the preferred way to do this and do you have tried and tested experience with a recommended way?

(Just as a note: we have looked at Tag based service mapping, but for that the tag quality has to be really superb, a very mature tag governance is needed.) I would be interested in real-world experience with many accounts and subscriptions (500+))

Kind regards

Miklos

Hi @Miklos Palfi ,

Tag based Service Mapping is the best way to do that, where you just needs to manage the Tags.

Also if you want to achieve this, you need to write the custom business rule which help to create the relationship between the VM and Application Service but that purely custom solution.

My Suggestion , Please look for OOB Solution as much as possible which helps you alot.
