Why has ServiceNow provided 'Device type' attribute on IP router/IP switch table OOB? We already have dedicated tables for routers, switches, firewalls, access points. Then why we have this TYPE field on Rotuer table for exmaple.

Is doesnt make sense to create a Firewall on Router table and choosing the device type as 'Firewall' right 😄

Some fields in the system are legacy, and before things like CMDB table extensions exist. This is likely one of those over-hangs that SN can't clear-up because people may have adopted it, and new customers need to be instructed to not use it (by partners)

Just wondering why ServiceNow is not removing those legacy fields for new customers who would get new instance. Even in a new Washington instance such fields still exist

My suspicion is that doing this for every field / option that is out there would end up with many many different ‘versions’ of the system. By leaving these in there, the system is simpler (same thing available across everyone’s instance) and more easily maintained.

I guess it might be a legacy field present on the parent network gear class before specific classes were introduced for various device types.
