Adding New Lifecycle Stage Field

We notice that the Deploy lifecycle stage status is not present in the lifecycle mapping. Can create new lifecycle?

Thanks

Hi @BasiratB , Yes you can, however to make a new lifecycle you will have to learn how thing and lifecycle things works on the instance and then you can replicate it or you can make it from scratch by understanding how actually lifecycle learns.

Let me know if i can further help.

This is not the advice from ServiceNow. They recommend you do not create new life cycles or life cycle stages. They have designed lifecycles specifically to not be modified. It is mentioned in the CSDM 5 whitepaper and also in the product documentation. It has been a while since I looked at Life Cycles in the platform but I believe you're not actually permitted to create new records.

There is a good reason for this: Life Cycles were designed to move away from the mess of different status values across the CMDB and elsewhere. To allow people to define their own Life Cycle Stages and Stage Status values will render this solution completely pointless.

The best practice advice is to use the existing Life Cycle Stages and Stage Statuses as they are.

I hope this helps!

Hi @Mathew Hillyard , Thanks for the insights, but for the original requirement what could be workaround or resolution?

After checking in a PDI:

Life Cycle Stages and Stage Status values can be created (but as mentioned this is not recommended).

Deploy is a Life Cycle Stage, not a Life Cycle Stage Status. Every Class in CSDM > Life Cycle Mapping that references Deploy does so in Life Cycle Stage.

What is the issue?
