Best practices building a Service Offering...

When building a Service Offering, is it best practice to designate a Model ID (Product)? 

For example, if we have Service Offering of ‘Tech Refresh – Hardware’, would we designate the Model at the Service Offering level, or inside of a requestable Catalog Item?

I scanned through the KB's you linked to, but did not see anything regarding designating Model IDs to Service Offerings.

This does not directly answer your question, however, there is a free store app [i.e., Service Builder] that may help you in creating your Service and Service Offering.
