Can someone please help me understand why OOB we are not allowed to link a service portfolio to Technical Service.

We have been asked by the management whether we can link a Technical Service to a Service Portfolio,

For eg if we identify Domain Services as a Technical Services, how can we link it to the taxonomy node and thereby to the portfolio? Please advise

I was mentioning the below error while trying to put in the service portfolio and taxonomy node for the technical Service.

Just to derive the taxonomy for technical service another workaround which we suggested was defining a Tech Business Service and then making it as Parent of the technical Service.

 

pre-Rome, this is a Business Rule that prevents the reference. Beginning with Rome, you are allowed to make the reference, and should not get the error.

As per CSDM 3.0, we have to define technical services in cmdb_ci_service_technical. we should not be using business services with classification as technical.

In the coming releases, we may have a separate table for business service. so we will have a service table as a parent and then child tables as business service, technical service, etc & application services

Pre Paris release we were able to add technical services to SPM as they are part of cmdb_ci_service with service classification as technical and all the business services and technical services are in the same table.

The solution, for now, is to de-activate the business rule " Taxonomy node check for business service " which will not throw the error and the forms can be edited.

But did not explain how to do it as we cannot create relations to non-CMDB tables (service portfolio table )

 

From the SPM Advanced view in both the Service/Technical Service and Service Offering forms, there are tabs available for Services I Depend On, Services Dependent On Me and Service Offerings I Depend On, Services Offerings Dependent On Me respectively.
