Hello everyone,
I would like to know the difference between VM instance and VMWare VM instance. I can see the VMWare VM instance also classified as server or computer based on the OS which is useful to keep a track of the inventory however VM instance not classified as any of the tables (server or computer), and we are losing inventory of VM instances.
If you could share is there any major difference between both VM instance and VMWare VM instance table would be better. if you could share the answers reference with the screenshot would be really helpful and make aware in future.

In my mental model inventory is based on asset designation which equates to hardware and software. VM Instance and VMWare Virtual Machine Instance are not hardware nor software - they are virtual objects. You could have a hardware component (Virtualization Server) that is the host of those instances but the instances themselves are virtual objects. The difference between the two? VMWare Virtual Machine Instance contains the VMWare specific virtual machines. The VM Instance can contains non-VMWare (Xen for example).
I have the Data Center manager include Virtual Machine Object CI Class in with his Server CI Class queries so he can see his full inventory.

Correction: VMWare Machine Objects not Virtual Machine Object CI Class for the query.
