Hi all,
We are currently working on capturing Business Applications/Services/Portfolio data within ServiceNow. Following the examples and information provided in the CSDM 4.0 framework video (Platform Office Hour 41 CSDM 4.0 Overview What's New Best Practices - YouTube) we are hoping to adopt this latest iteration as we near the stage of bringing this data into ServiceNow.
My questions are around the build domain and specifically SDLC components. Are there any resources or examples out there of how the SDLC Component will be represented within ServiceNow? E.g. Is it's own record similar to business application or is it a class option of other CI's? If it's a record what are the OOB fields for this record? What are the standard CI relationship types used for SDLC components and other CSDM categories in their respective domain?
Knowing what metadata and information the SDLC Component needs OOB would be a a great help as we are in the initial data capture/validation phase. And we also definitely want to make use of the 4.0 as it already helps reduce some of the complexity of mapping these out!
Any information on this topic would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Michael.

hi Michael,
Although I cannot answer your question entirely, I just want to make you aware the new SDLC CI class [cmdb_ci_sdlc_component] can be installed as part of the Store app CMDB CI Class Models (v1.33).
regards, Bruno

I like you am very excited to see this class and also want to implement it. Being involved with ServiceNow DevOps I also know that it can be a powerful tool. That being said I would not rush to implement it just yet ... it is still being rolled out. As you know ServiceNow rolls elements and classes out ahead of when the product actually makes full use of them so that they will be there when they are needed. This class [cmdb_ci_sdlc_component] is specifically targeted for ServiceNow DevOps so not only does the CSDM side of the house need to implement it but also the DevOps side of the house ... and that is still being architected. Although it is very tempting to use this new 'shiny object' my recommendation is to take a wait and see posture for the short term.
sorry ... best I can do.

Hi Ed, thanks for your response. Given that we are capturing SDLC Components as well and want a record in ServiceNow, do you have any advice on how you would say create the relationships for a platform app using the CSDM framework without making use of this class?
Right now it seems under 3.0 we would set it as a 'second tier' business application which doesn't seem as clean and we would want to avoid.
