Hi,
I am working to link CSDM with CSM and one of the clear linkages is view the Product Model that you assign to a Service Offering.
However I am confused in that:
1. The CMDB Use case states "Sold Product table ..... Represents the product purchased by an Account or Consumer, and references the Product Model table [cmdb_model] or Service Model table [cmdb_service_product_model]
2. The CSM Use case show the link from Business Service Offerings to Sold Products :
2. However, when you go to create a Service Model the only valid Category is Application Service
Surely this should be changed to be "Business Service Offering" and the Model Category pointing to the cmdb_ci_business_service table rather than cmdb_ci_service_discovered?
Or have I missed something here?

Hi Alec,
I remember this and I came to the same conclusion.
If I am correct I mapped it to the service_offering class (I added a model category for this)
Cheers,
Barry

Thanks Barry. Not really helping keep the OOTB delivery.
I would add an Idea to get this reviewed and fixed, but it seems these are now restricted within the Community.

I share your frustration with the Idea portal. I'll leave it at that. But I would argue that this is more of a "problem" than an enhancement. Luckily, the problem is actually easy to resolve. Simply go to the Model Categories dictionary entry and deselect the "Override default value" and "Override read only" checkboxes, and then create an Offering model category that is configured to use the Offering class. From there everything should work as expected. I've submitted feedback to the Documentation team because, at the very least, the documentation paints a picture that this will work out of the box when it clearly does not.
Last I will add that there are more potential uses for Service Models, and aside from the customer service and SaaS scenario that this question is focused on, the current default configuration is just too restrictive, and after some consideration and configuration I have come to the conclusion that changing this configuration is probably a good practice for most.

Hi , posting to a old thread but the frustration is still here in 2025 🙂
i wonder if it really should be relation from Sold product to SO.
From the concept the sold product have install base items and these are related to Application services
It's these app services that have a connection to a SO.
Product - Sold product - install base item - application service should be 1-1 relation from a csm pov.
Im a missing any additional narratives?
