Hi all,
For a published article with translations that was created manually by an author (not by machine translation), is it possible OOB to check out that aricle and change the parent field?
We have authors saying they used to be able to edit this field before but since the Rome upgrade they can no longer do this but I'm not so sure if this field was ever editable.

That field should be read-only as amending it would affect the parent-child relationship. OOTB translated articles work via a "parent" / "child" relationship.
Typically the English article would act as the parent article where the translations would be in the same table but act as the children articles as their "parent" field would be populated with the sys_id of the English source article.
- Parent: Number of the article that represents the base language article. This setting keeps translations of the same article related to each other. Consider choosing the same language consistently for the parent article.
-
Note: The Parent field is used for keeping track of translations of articles.

Paul

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your reply. Just to understand a little more, what happens when the author manually creates a translated article, publishes it and then realizes they forgot to add the parent (which is always an English version for us)?
Do they have to retire that translated article and start again as the parent field is avaialbe to edit when initially creating article?

Hi @Jar , we have versioning enabled and with this, setting the parent would require a new version of the article (may at least be better than retiring and starting from scratch). As we also have the English version as mandatory original, we have inserted a script (or so, I'm not a programmer) preventing publication for article with Language NOT English when the parent field is empty.

Hi Team, I have a requirement to add a knowledge article to the Parent field, but the article is in the "Published" and "Readable" field. As a result, I am unable to add the article to the parent field. Is this OOB functionality? Could any one assist?
