What is install base item and product

I have gone through below thread but i didnt understand it completely. Could you please explain the purpose of creating install base item in CSM.

Hi @Prakash_S ,

Install base item in CSM states that if a company or partner sell a product which require installation at consumer site on that case we create an record in install base table with sold product along with company/partner, consumer, installation details, life cycle status and other details. This help to provide maintenance/replacement etc to consumer.

Lets say you have purchased one item from Amazon then actual product seller company  provide you service like installation, repair, AMC etc because they create one install base record for you once they sell it.
