CWM - anyone implement a workaround for Epics so far?

Hi Folks,

I know ServiceNow is planning to introduce the Epics properly into CWM by the end of this year.

Still I would like to ask if maybe someone has already developed a workaround to be able to work with Epics in CWM?

If yes, it would be great to get a little insight on how you handled it. E.g. did you just connect the "old rm_epic epics" via Connected Work and keep using those, or you somehow added the sn_align_core_scrum_epic into CWM?

Thanks!

Hi Tom,
You can use the "Epic" field on the CWM list view to add scrum_epics to a story. Note this field does not reflect on the story table yet. But within CWM it gives you a way to visualize story relationship to scrum epic.
This option does not bring a list of Epics.

Hi, thanks for the recommendation.

I've already explored this option. Indeed this allows to see and attach Epics to Stories. The challenge is that the agile team working within CWM does not know that new Epics have been created and assigned to them, e.g. if the Epics are created from Demand or from EAP by Product Owners.

To allow seamless experience, I believe CWM users should also have this possibility to see a list (and ideally, hierarchy) view of Epics.

Today it looks like CWM users can already create Epics, so that part works, but again as there is no visibility into those Epics, they "disappear" once created and you need to search for them in the story reference field.

We also need the possibility for CWM users to easily create Stories under Epics (as a workaround of you can first create an Epic then attach all related stories from list view, but I suppose a lot of people who worked with Agile 2.0 will want to be able to add Stories directly from the Epic.

Hopefully the CWM enhancements planned for this year will address all of this 🙂

Thanks!

Thank you for the feedback. We have  a dedicated Epic backlog in CWM planned for 2026.
