Technical FAQs

What are the usage limits?

For Personal Developer Instances (PDI), there is a limit of 10 prompts per instance per month. For customer instances that acquire Build Agent from the ServiceNow Store, there is a limit of 25 prompts per instance per month. For instances that are licensed for Now Assist for Creator, limits are based on your license.

When are usage limits reset?

PDI usage limits for Build Agent prompts reset every 30 days starting from the day on which the limit is set.

What if I run out of usage or used all my prompts before this challenge?

The limit is per instance, so you can elect to release your current PDI and request a new one, which will reset the usage count. Remember to back up any important work on your instance before you release it.

How long can each prompt be?

Very long. Feel free to be as simple or verbose as you want in each prompt. You can copy and paste large console logs, lengthy Product Requirement Documentation, or even huge error messages.

What else does Build Agent handle besides writing the code?

  • Compiling and validating source files
  • Testing of its own files
  • Pushing builds into the instance

How does Build Agent differ from AI Agents or Agentic AI?

While both names share “Agent,” Build Agent focuses on dev automation, whereas AI Agent (Agentic AI) focuses on task automation within workflows. Build Agent is an AI Agent.

What are the limitations of Build Agent?

Generally speaking, Build Agent is currently limited to the following abilities:

  • ServiceNow Fluent via the ServiceNow SDK
  • React based web components for user interfaces

To see what ServiceNow metadata that Build Agent is able to create and edit on your behalf (like business rules, client scripts, tables, etc.), check out the documentation for Fluent here:

https://www.servicenow.com/docs/bundle/zurich-application-development/page/build/servicenow-sdk/conc...

That means Build Agent’s scope is currently explicit. If it is not part of the Fluent SDK, then it cannot build it. But that also means that the capabilities of Build Agent are constantly growing as more and more metadata types are being added to the Fluent framework.

What that will look like as you build your applications: Build Agent will elect to write scripted code instead of building a Flow Designer action or flow. Or another example: telling Build Agent to build something that it doesn’t have access to and forcing it to move forward despite this might cause it to build it a different way or simulate that it built it.

Always remember that Build Agent is utilizing generative AI and can hallucinate.

Where can I learn more about Build Agent and how to acquire it for my company?

Read more about the product of Build Agent and Enterprise Vibe Coding at https://www.servicenow.com/products/vibe-coding.html#faq, including questions regarding governance and how Build Agent relates to App Engine.

My #BuildWithBuildAgent Challenge Experience

Thrilled to finally share my experience from the #BuildWithBuildAgent Challenge! The application I built is a digital library entry system for my village, moving away from traditional paper books to online records a fantastic step towards efficiency and going paperless!

Huge thanks to ServiceNow for organizing this and bringing the Build Agent to the market it’s truly a game-changer for speeding up app development.

My Journey: 7 Prompts, 4th Attempt, and Key Learnings

I successfully created my application, but it took some persistence! This was my 4th attempt at the challenge, and I ultimately utilized about 7 out of my 10 PDI prompts for the final working version.

The Biggest Lesson? Prompt Simplicity is King.

  1. The Failure Curve: My early attempts (1-3) failed because I was being too hard on the agent, providing overly technical, detailed prompts that confused the process.

  2. The Success Formula: My breakthrough came when I switched to simple, high-level language, allowing the agent to determine the best approach.

  3. The Fixer's Dilemma: When fixing a failure, I learned to be explicit: "Fix this issue, but DO NOT change the working parts."

Through this process, I gained a deep appreciation for the underlying components the agent uses and how the build process works. The Build Agent is really good and accelerates development, but its need for improved prompt management (especially against stalls/timeouts that cost us a prompt) is a valid point of feedback. This is the future of development on the #NowPlatform.

🙏 Special Thanks & Shoutout

A huge thank you to @laszloballa & @Nia McCash for the super connect and for sharing your expertise on current limitations and guiding me through the errors I faced.

I recently completed the #BuildWithBuildAgent challenge and wanted to share my experience building the Meeting Tracker Pro – Quantum Outcome Management application. Here is the link to my LinkedIn post showcasing the build:

https://www.linkedin.com/posts/yashwanthpepakayala_buildwithbuildagent-buildwithbuildagent-serviceno...

Working with the Build Agent was a completely new and incredibly smooth experience. I was amazed at how efficiently it transformed high-level natural-language instructions into a fully functional, visually polished application. I focused mainly on describing the user experience, design style, and expected behavior — and the Build Agent handled the rest with impressive intelligence.

It automatically generated a structured data model, created all necessary relationships, built workflows for reminders and escalations, designed a beautiful UI, and even connected everything end-to-end without requiring manual configuration. Watching the Build Agent interpret intent, infer functionality, and materialize an entire app in minutes truly felt like a glimpse into the future of development on the Now Platform.

The challenge allowed me to explore how AI accelerates the development of internal productivity solutions, reduces complexity, and empowers creators to focus more on innovation than on implementation. Excited to continue experimenting with Build Agent and see how it evolves!

Thanks to the ServiceNow team for launching this challenge — it was a great learning experience!

As part of the BuildWithBuildAgent challenge, I wanted to explore how Build Agent can rapidly turn a concept into a functional ServiceNow application.

ServiceNow partner organizations rely heavily on certifications; most consultants hold multiple SNOW certs, and managing those certificates along with training vouchers is a critical part of maintaining partner status.
Yet many teams still track this manually through spreadsheets and emails, which becomes inefficient as the team grows.

To demonstrate what’s possible, I created a sample Certificate Management Dashboard UI on my PDI.

What this sample dashboard aims to solve:
- Centralize all employee certificates
- Ability for employees to add new certificates effortlessly
- Track and Assign ServiceNow Certifications vouchers
- Provide managers with visibility and analyse and report on the certifications of all employees

This is just a UI sample, but it showcases how Build Agent can accelerate internal tool development with minimal manual effort.

Hello everyone,
I'm thrilled to share that I’ve successfully completed the #BuildWithBuildAgent Challenge!

I’m genuinely amazed by the sheer power and intelligence of the Build Agent. The Results of my custom app (link below) is the perfect demonstration of how Build Agent in the ServiceNow IDE is truly a game-changing feature. Just a few lines of natural-language instructions — and boom! A fully functional custom application built in minutes. Absolutely mind-blowing.

For this challenge, I created an application called “AI Form Field Suggestion Helper.”
Its purpose is to help catalog designers, developers, and process owners instantly generate accurate, intelligent form field suggestions using simple English descriptions. You just describe what the form is about — and the app instantly produces recommended field labels, technical names, field types, mandatory rules, validations, default values, and UI policy suggestions.

This makes form design dramatically faster, reduces errors, and ensures consistent, high-quality form structures across the platform.
#servicenow #buildwithbuildagent

🧠 Prompt I Used

“Generate form field suggestions based on a natural-language description. The system should analyze the form use case and produce recommended field labels, technical names, field types, mandatory settings, default values, regex validations, and UI policy suggestions. It must show these suggestions in an editable table and allow users to export JSON or copy the generated definition.”

🎯 Key Benefits

Instant Form Design — high-quality field suggestions generated in seconds
🧩 Smart Field Types — auto-detected based on description
✔️ Built-In Validations — regex patterns, mandatory flags, defaults
⚙️ UI Policy Recommendations — show/hide, read-only, conditional logic
📋 Editable Suggestion Table — refine, reorder, add or remove fields
🚀 Accelerated Form Development — massive productivity boost
🔍 Consistency Across Teams — avoids duplication and improves accuracy

Hi All

 @laurentapia

🚀Completed the #BuildWithBuildAgent Challenge!

Becoming a parent for the first time is a magical, joyful — and sometimes overwhelming — journey. Every month brings new milestones, new questions, and new needs. Whether it’s tracking your baby’s growth, understanding skin sensitivity, or figuring out which product you should buy next, there’s a lot to navigate — and not everyone has caring elders around to guide them.

That’s why I’m excited to share CubbyCare, a one-stop, all-in-one service portal built for parents of newborns and toddlers. It’s a passion project born from the real challenges many parents face — because help shouldn’t feel far away, and guidance should always be easy to find.

🔍 What Is CubbyCare?

CubbyCare is a scoped application built on ServiceNow, designed specifically for baby care and parenting. Here’s what parents can do on the platform:

  • Baby Essentials Store: Products like diapers, wipes, clothing, toys — organized by age, weight, season, and more.
  • Subscription Boxes: Monthly curated kits (diaper kits, bath kits, food starter kits, mommy-care combos) that deliver right when you need them.
  • Medical & Healthcare Tools: Video consultations with pediatricians, appointment scheduling, vaccination reminders, home sample collection, and even fever tracking.
  • Parenting Guide & Tips: Weekly insights, sleep-cycle guides, feeding advice, calming techniques, safety tips, and short video tutorials.
  • Growth & Milestone Tracker: Track your baby’s height, weight, diet, and developmental milestones — and see how they’re growing week by week.
  • Toys & Entertainment: Age-appropriate toy suggestions based on learning style (sensory, soft toys, etc.)
  • Community Support: Discussion groups, expert Q&A, local parent networks, and shared routines.

⚙️ How It Works (Inside CubbyCare)

  • Personalized recommendations: Based on your baby’s age, health profile, skin sensitivity, and even the season, CubbyCare suggests the right products and services.
  • Smart automation:
    • Subscription renewals happen automatically.
    • Vaccination and doctor-appointment reminders are sent out without you having to worry.
    • If a medical product requires a doctor’s approval, it’s routed automatically for review.
  • Emergency support: Get help instantly — tele-consultation, nearby hospital locator, and fast medicine delivery — all through the portal.

💡 Why I Built This

When I became a parent, I found myself juggling so many new and unexpected needs — from medical questions to product choices. I realized that while guidance from family elders is incredibly valuable, not everyone has that support. CubbyCare is a way to make expert guidance, trusted products, and meaningful community support accessible to every parent.

I’m extremely proud of this app, built from the ground up on ServiceNow, and hope CubbyCare can serve many parents navigating the newborn and toddler phase.

Hello All,

A few years before, I witnessed a moment I’ll never forget a person with a hearing disability trying to get help through a phone customer care line, unable to speak, and unable to make the system understand them.

That helpless situation stayed with me.

It made me question:

1. Why are we still building systems that exclude people who communicate differently? And honestly, at that time, I had no idea how to help.

When the Build with Build Agents challenge launched, that memory came back instantly.

So I created HAPTIC -  a small Responsible AI prototype that lets users log incidents using only sign language or gestures.

It’s early, but it already:

✔️ Understands gestures

✔️ Translates responsibly

✔️ Creates ServiceNow requests

✔️ Avoids storing raw video

It’s just a prototype — but it can scale into gesture-video → text, and even text → gesture-video using modern generative AI.
