Technical FAQs

What are the usage limits?

For Personal Developer Instances (PDI), there is a limit of 10 prompts per instance per month. For customer instances that acquire Build Agent from the ServiceNow Store, there is a limit of 25 prompts per instance per month. For instances that are licensed for Now Assist for Creator, limits are based on your license.

When are usage limits reset?

PDI usage limits for Build Agent prompts reset every 30 days starting from the day on which the limit is set.

What if I run out of usage or used all my prompts before this challenge?

The limit is per instance, so you can elect to release your current PDI and request a new one, which will reset the usage count. Remember to back up any important work on your instance before you release it.

How long can each prompt be?

Very long. Feel free to be as simple or verbose as you want in each prompt. You can copy and paste large console logs, lengthy Product Requirement Documentation, or even huge error messages.

What else does Build Agent handle besides writing the code?

  • Compiling and validating source files
  • Testing of its own files
  • Pushing builds into the instance

How does Build Agent differ from AI Agents or Agentic AI?

While both names share “Agent,” Build Agent focuses on dev automation, whereas AI Agent (Agentic AI) focuses on task automation within workflows. Build Agent is an AI Agent.

What are the limitations of Build Agent?

Generally speaking, Build Agent is currently limited to the following abilities:

  • ServiceNow Fluent via the ServiceNow SDK
  • React based web components for user interfaces

To see what ServiceNow metadata that Build Agent is able to create and edit on your behalf (like business rules, client scripts, tables, etc.), check out the documentation for Fluent here:

https://www.servicenow.com/docs/bundle/zurich-application-development/page/build/servicenow-sdk/conc...

That means Build Agent’s scope is currently explicit. If it is not part of the Fluent SDK, then it cannot build it. But that also means that the capabilities of Build Agent are constantly growing as more and more metadata types are being added to the Fluent framework.

What that will look like as you build your applications: Build Agent will elect to write scripted code instead of building a Flow Designer action or flow. Or another example: telling Build Agent to build something that it doesn’t have access to and forcing it to move forward despite this might cause it to build it a different way or simulate that it built it.

Always remember that Build Agent is utilizing generative AI and can hallucinate.

Where can I learn more about Build Agent and how to acquire it for my company?

Read more about the product of Build Agent and Enterprise Vibe Coding at https://www.servicenow.com/products/vibe-coding.html#faq, including questions regarding governance and how Build Agent relates to App Engine.

I built a Story Management Workspace on ServiceNow entirely through AI - powered prompts - no manual coding as a part of #BuildWithBuildAgent challenge!
🔹 What I Built with Build Agent
- A dashboard that fetches and displays story records directly from the Story [rm_story] table.
- Clickable widgets like My Stories, Group Stories, and Stories by State
- A story list page for which we can apply filters.
- Smooth navigation - clicking any story opens the Story Form page
- A Generate Test Script button, on click, it takes Short Description, Description, and Acceptance Criteria as input and gives test scripts for that particular story.

🛠️ The generated test script wasn’t fully accurate or well-structured yet - but the fact that Build Agent could generate the entire workspace, UI, logic, and navigation through prompts alone was impressive.

AI-powered development is genuinely transforming how fast we can build and iterate on enterprise apps.
If you're exploring low-code or AI-assisted development on ServiceNow, this challenge is a great way to jump in.

What the AI will build:
An Emergency Traffic Clear System inside ServiceNow that detects when an ambulance is stuck in traffic, automatically turns the nearest traffic signal green, and alerts the closest traffic control center. It includes the data model for ambulances, traffic signals and control centers, automation flows to trigger emergency actions, sample data for testing, and a simple dashboard to monitor everything in real time.

This dashboard is the core interface of the Emergency Traffic Clear System, designed to monitor ambulances in real time and react instantly when one gets stuck in traffic.

1. Real-Time Ambulance Monitoring

The Ambulance tab shows each vehicle’s live status:

  • Current location

  • Speed

  • Whether the emergency mode is ON

  • Whether the ambulance is moving or stuck

The moment an ambulance drops to a very low speed while in emergency mode, the system marks it as STUCK.

2. Automatic Traffic Signal Control

When an ambulance becomes stuck, the system automatically:

  • Identifies the nearest traffic signal

  • Switches it to green to clear the way

  • Sends an alert to the nearest traffic control center

  • Records the full action in the logs

This simulates how a smart city would respond in real life.

3. Traffic Signal Intelligence

The Traffic Signals tab gives a live view of:

  • Each signal’s current color

  • How recently it changed

  • Which ambulance triggered it

This helps control teams understand how the system is helping emergency vehicles move faster through the city.

4. Action Logs

Every action taken by the system is captured in the log:

  • Which ambulance was stuck

  • Which signal turned green

  • Timestamp of the event

  • Status updates

This gives a clear audit trail and supports future analysis.

5. Test Simulator

The Test Simulator is a powerful feature.
You can manually set an ambulance as “STUCK” and watch the system:

  • Detect the issue

  • Trigger the green signal

  • Send notifications

  • Update the dashboard

It’s perfect for a demo because everything happens instantly and visually.

Why this dashboard stands out

  • Real-time, clean and easy to understand

  • Simulates a real command-control center

  • Shows the full emergency workflow end to end

  • Demonstrates high-impact use of AI and automation

  • Everything is built with ServiceNow Build Agent without heavy custom coding

I recently explored how far ServiceNow’s Build Agent can go, and the results were incredible. By simply describing my idea in a prompt, Build Agent automatically generated the data model, designed the UI, built smart business logic, and even configured role‑based security — all in minutes. 🤯 What started as a concept for a Complete Inventory Management System quickly became a fully functional app that tracks items, alerts on low stock, manages restocking, and provides audit trails and reporting.

Step 1: Define the app concept
- Goal: Build a complete inventory management system with smart logic and role-based security
- Main table: Items with fields for name, quantity, price, category, location, minimum stock, last restocked
- Auto-numbering: Item IDs like INV000001, INV000002
- Categories: Tools, Parts, Equipment, Consumables, Safety Equipment
- Business rules: Prevent negative values, trigger low/out-of-stock alerts, auto-update last restocked on quantity increase
- Roles: Inventory Manager, Inventory User, Inventory Viewer

Step 2: Prompt Build Agent

Build an application called Complete Inventory Management System
- Main Table: Track items, quantities, prices, categories, and locations
- Auto-numbering: Items get automatic INV000001, INV000002, etc.
- Categories: Tools, Parts, Equipment, Consumables, Safety Equipment
- Smart Business Logic:
- Automatic Validation: Prevent negative prices and quantities
- Low Stock Alerts: Warn when items fall below minimum stock
- Out of Stock Alerts: Notifies when quantities reach zero
- Auto-Restock Tracking: Updates "last restocked" date automatically when quantities increase
- Role-Based Security:
- Inventory Manager: Full access to create, edit, delete inventory items
- Inventory User: Can view and update quantities and prices
- Inventory Viewer: Read-only access to browse inventory
- UI and Reporting:
- Forms and lists for item management
- Search and filter across all fields
- Audit trails for changes

Step 3: Review Build Agent output
- Data model: Items table with required fields and category choices
- UI: Forms for “New” item and lists with filters/grouping
- Logic: Validation, stock alerts, and last restocked automation rules
- Security: Roles mapped to permissions across tables and UIs
- Extras: Audit trails enabled, search and filter configured

Step 4: Configure role-based access
- Inventory Manager: Create, read, update, delete items; manage categories; adjust thresholds
- Inventory User: Read items; update quantities and prices; no deletes
- Inventory Viewer: Read-only access; can search and filter
- Verification: Test each role by impersonating and performing allowed actions

Step 5: Demo on your PDI
- Seed data:
- Professional Wrench Set — 15 units
- Heavy Duty Oil Filter — 3 units (low stock)
- Safety Goggles — 25 units
- Industrial Degreasing Solvent — 8 units
- Pneumatic Hydraulic Pump — 2 units
- Try these actions:
- Add new items: Click “New” and confirm auto-numbering (INV000001…)
- Update quantities: Increase units and confirm “Last Restocked” updates automatically
- Trigger alerts: Set minimum stock and edit Oil Filter to see low stock warning; set quantity to 0 to see out-of-stock alert
- Validate rules: Attempt negative price/quantity—system should block
- Search & filter: Filter by category/location; group by category to spot shortages

Completed the #BuildWithBuildAgent Challenge!

Hello Everyone!

I’m super excited to share that I’ve successfully completed the #BuildWithBuildAgent Challenge — and it’s been nothing short of amazing. Huge thanks to @laurentapia for introducing this challenge and inspiring us to explore the future of app development.

I was truly mesmerized by the power of Build Agent in the ServiceNow IDE. With just a few lines of prompt, I created a fully functional custom app in minutes. It’s fast, intuitive, and a total game changer for developers and process designers alike.

💭Do you know banks often struggle with incomplete, outdated, or unverified KYC documents from customers. When KYC information is missing or expired, accounts may be restricted, leading to customer dissatisfaction, potential loss of business and RBI penalties on banks

MayankU315_1-1763912837118.png

App Name:  : KYC Refresh & Expiry Management Portal

🧭 Application Summary

The portal provides a professional, compliant interface for customers to manage their KYC documents while ensuring full RBI regulatory compliance!

The application will also allow the stakeholders to manage KYC documents, KYC reminders and the whole KYC flow.

MayankU315_2-1763912837118.png

Key Features

Single Prompt which created this app:

Created KYC Refresh & Expiry Management Portal application

  1. Allow users to submit KYC documents directly on bank portal securely.
  2. View submitted KYC status.
  3. Update your profile.
  4. Reminder tracking.

While I was building the application using #buildwithbuildagent, I faced some errors during build.

The output prompt showed the errors in human readable form and copying the error from output prompt to Build prompt helps to auto resolve the issue.

Building with the ServiceNow Build Agent has been such an interesting experience!

As part of #BuildWithBuildAgent, I created a small yet meaningful project — a "My Certification Journey" workspace that visually represents the certifications and badges from my Now Learning progress.

All I had to do was describe the kind of view I wanted, and the Build Agent handled the rest:

  • Generated the workspace structure

  • Designed clean cards for certifications and badges

  • Added toggles and date filters

  • Styled the layout with a bright, modern UI

It was amazing to see a simple idea transform into an interactive workspace within minutes. A great example of how natural-language development makes building on the Now Platform faster and more creative.

Here is my participation for #BuildWithBuildAgent
When we think of moving to a new city due to work or other reasons, we have a lot of things going on, and to de-stress ourselves we either meet with friends who are already living in that particular city or try to make new friends at the workplace.
One thing that can keep us busy and help us socialize and de-stress ourselves is playing team sports or any type of board games with different people.

Social Activity Hub is basically a platform to find people who like the same stuff you do. Whether you're into sports, board games, gaming, or random hobbies — you can post an activity or join one and start hanging out with people nearby.

I created this application using the #BuildWithBuild Agent using prompts.
Users can create and join public activities tailored to their interests. Posts include the activity type, location, date/time, and any additional details. People in the same area or with similar interests can browse and join these posts instantly. Users can filter activities based on their interests.
Users can see their joined activities and cannot join the same activity twice. Users will be shown upcoming activities, and based on their interests and eligibility factors they can join. Users can also post a new activity that other users can join.
In addition to this, we can even share our hobbies. For example, I collect die-cast model cars, and I am into collecting currencies of different countries and stamps (Philately). Now I can plan a meetup of collectors with the same interests, and users can showcase their collections.

This will help a person socialize, improve their group, and also learn some new games and new strategies associated with a particular sport or develop new hobbies/interests. This can help people connect in new cities through shared interests. It also encourages socializing through shared passions. No pressure — just fun, casual meetups based on what you love.Activity Hub Home.pngMy Activities.pngUpcoming Activities.png
