Technical FAQs

What are the usage limits?

For Personal Developer Instances (PDI), there is a limit of 10 prompts per instance per month. For customer instances that acquire Build Agent from the ServiceNow Store, there is a limit of 25 prompts per instance per month. For instances that are licensed for Now Assist for Creator, limits are based on your license.

When are usage limits reset?

PDI usage limits for Build Agent prompts reset every 30 days starting from the day on which the limit is set.

What if I run out of usage or used all my prompts before this challenge?

The limit is per instance, so you can elect to release your current PDI and request a new one, which will reset the usage count. Remember to back up any important work on your instance before you release it.

How long can each prompt be?

Very long. Feel free to be as simple or verbose as you want in each prompt. You can copy and paste large console logs, lengthy Product Requirement Documentation, or even huge error messages.

What else does Build Agent handle besides writing the code?

  • Compiling and validating source files
  • Testing of its own files
  • Pushing builds into the instance

How does Build Agent differ from AI Agents or Agentic AI?

While both names share “Agent,” Build Agent focuses on dev automation, whereas AI Agent (Agentic AI) focuses on task automation within workflows. Build Agent is an AI Agent.

What are the limitations of Build Agent?

Generally speaking, Build Agent is currently limited to the following abilities:

  • ServiceNow Fluent via the ServiceNow SDK
  • React based web components for user interfaces

To see what ServiceNow metadata that Build Agent is able to create and edit on your behalf (like business rules, client scripts, tables, etc.), check out the documentation for Fluent here:

https://www.servicenow.com/docs/bundle/zurich-application-development/page/build/servicenow-sdk/conc...

That means Build Agent’s scope is currently explicit. If it is not part of the Fluent SDK, then it cannot build it. But that also means that the capabilities of Build Agent are constantly growing as more and more metadata types are being added to the Fluent framework.

What that will look like as you build your applications: Build Agent will elect to write scripted code instead of building a Flow Designer action or flow. Or another example: telling Build Agent to build something that it doesn’t have access to and forcing it to move forward despite this might cause it to build it a different way or simulate that it built it.

Always remember that Build Agent is utilizing generative AI and can hallucinate.

Where can I learn more about Build Agent and how to acquire it for my company?

Read more about the product of Build Agent and Enterprise Vibe Coding at https://www.servicenow.com/products/vibe-coding.html#faq, including questions regarding governance and how Build Agent relates to App Engine.

Built a “Departmental Software License & Usage Tracker” App Using ServiceNow Build Agent!

Hi Everyone,

I recently explored the #BuildWithBuildAgent challenge and decided to build a complete Departmental Software License & Usage Tracker app  entirely through conversational prompts. The experience was incredible, and I wanted to share what I built and how powerful the Build Agent really is.

 What I Built

Using only natural language instructions, the Build Agent generated:

  • A complete data model for managing licenses, usage, compliance status, and risk indicators
  • Business logic powered by the Fluent SDK
  • A clean, interactive, and fully usable dashboard UI
  • Automated insights and categorization logic (High / Medium / Low usage, compliance, risk, etc.)

Dashboard Snapshot

Here’s a look at the dashboard the agent created:

Key Metrics

  • Total Licenses: 192
  • Utilization Rate: 0% (low usage)
  • Annual Cost: $70.00
  • Compliance: 5 compliant licenses → 100% compliant
  • Usage Distribution: Automatically grouped into High, Medium, and Low tiers
  • Risk Status: No licenses marked Over Licensed, Under Licensed, or At Risk

 Why This Matters

This project showed me how quickly you can go from an idea to a working, insight-driven application — without manually building forms, UI components, or complex logic. Build Agent handled everything:

  • Schema
  • UI
  • Logic
  • Calculations
  • Compliance & usage indicatorslc2.pnglicense.png

Building a Health-Focused App with Pure Vibe Coding: The Mental Health Check-in System 💡

I’m thrilled to participate in the #BuildWithBuildAgent challenge, where I created a practical application using only natural language prompts. I built a scoped application called the Mental Health Check-in App, and the process was a fantastic demonstration of agentic AI. 🚀

Here’s a step-by-step walkthrough of how I designed and deployed the app on my Personal Developer Instance (PDI):

Step 1: Define the App Concept and Requirements
My goal was to provide a simple, private way for users to track their well-being and access resources:
Data Model: Created a single table: MH_CheckinLog, with fields for mood rating (1-10), stress level, sleep quality, and a notes field.

Security: Defined role-based access for mh_user (submit/view own logs) and mh_manager (view anonymous trends/admin resources).

Automation: Implemented simple business logic to flag low mood scores and a notification system for automated self-care tips.

User Experience: Created a User Portal (simple check-in form and personal history chart) and an Admin Dashboard (resource links and aggregate data).

Step 2: Prompt Build Agent
I combined these requirements into one comprehensive "vibe code" prompt:
"Create a scoped application named Mental Health Check-in App. Define a table MH CheckinLog with specified fields. Implement user and manager roles for security. Incorporate automation tasks for low mood score flags and automated self-care notifications. Finally, build a User Portal UI and an Admin Dashboard UI."

The ServiceNow Build Agent responded by generating the fully scoped app, including the table structure, security roles, and UI pages instantly.

Step 3: Debugging and Iteration (The AI Co-pilot in Action)
The initial build was smooth, but I wanted to refine the user experience.
I noticed the user portal chart wasn't displaying data exactly as I wanted. I simply fed the code snippet back into the chat with the prompt: "The chart on my user portal page is not filtering correctly for the current user. Please fix the script."
The Build Agent analyzed the logic, corrected the script to filter by the logged-in user's ID, and deployed the correction, demonstrating its true value as a debugging co-pilot.

Step 4: Conclusion
It was remarkable to see a wellness application with useful automation and a user interface deployed so quickly with minimal manual intervention. This process dramatically proves that AI handles the boilerplate, allowing developers to focus entirely on the solution architecture and human-centric problems!

Joining the Sprint #BuildWithBuildAgent :

Over the weekend experimented with building a Healthcare & Hospital Management application on ServiceNow using #BuildWithBuildAgent. The application is inspired by the ServiceNow's inhouse Healthcare & Life Sciences Management module, aiming to replicate similar value through an AI-assisted build, covering appointments, patient records, lab tests, invoices, insurance claims, and more. The intention is to compare an AI-generated application with one shaped by human research, contextual understanding, and experience-driven design.

The ability to translate an idea into a functional prototype within minutes is genuinely impressive. While I didn’t get much time to deeply stress-test its capabilities, the initial impression is very encouraging. Both have their place.
AI gives you speed. Human expertise gives you completeness, context, and reliability. And as always, the true potential emerges when an experienced solution consultant steps in refining the solution, covering complex edge cases, and crafting a more tailored user experience.

This feels like a significant breakthrough in the ServiceNow evolution, bridging rapid prototyping with expert-driven solution design.

Excited to share that I have participated in the #BuildWithBuildAgent Challenge by #ServiceNow.
Created Child SafeGuard, An application to report complaints for child victims against accused parties, with police jurisdiction assignment and case tracking capabilities.

It took some effort and almost all free prompts building it out and configuring everything so that it works to a recommendable extent but seeing this I can definitely say it has immense potential how the ServiceNow development landscape might change in the coming days.
