ServiceNow has introduced CIS – Data Foundations (CMDB & CSDM) as a mandatory prerequisite for all major CIS mainline certifications. If you currently hold (or plan to hold) any core CIS credentials, this is something you should act on sooner rather than later.
Why is this important?
If CIS – Data Foundations (CMDB & CSDM) is not completed by December 2026, the following CIS certifications will expire automatically:
- Certified Implementation Specialist – Discovery
- Certified Implementation Specialist – Hardware Asset Management
- Certified Implementation Specialist – IT Service Management
- Certified Implementation Specialist – Security Incident Response
- Certified Implementation Specialist – Service Mapping
- Certified Implementation Specialist – Software Asset Management
- Certified Implementation Specialist – Vulnerability Response
Once expired, you’ll need to retake Data Foundations and all affected CIS exams again to regain them.
Limited‑Time Opportunity (Free Exam)
Here’s the good news:
The CIS – Data Foundations (CMDB & CSDM) exam is currently FREE until June 30.
After June 30, this certification will become paid, so this is the best time to complete it with zero cost.
Data quality, CMDB accuracy, and CSDM alignment are now central to every ServiceNow implementation. Completing CIS – Data Foundations (CMDB & CSDM) is not just a compliance step — it’s an investment in long‑term certification health.
👉 If you have any CIS certifications (or plan to earn them), complete Data Foundations now and take advantage of the free window.
