I'm Forrest Falk, a ServiceNow Certified Master Architect (CMA). In this post, I'll share practical insights from a CMA’s perspective and show how to use build agent to create, edit and deploy full stack ServiceNow applications that encompass front and backend components. This post is part of a series, and I will be posting updates as I go along. Each post I will be sharing my experience with build agent and add more features. I will cover starting from scratch to how to edit our application.

Hello everyone and welcome back! Last time we got our application deployed and we were able to take the first look at our dashboard. From first looks, it seems that our application has been created to our requirements. We are able to view the storerooms, total items, low stock alerts, and more. One issue I found is that the storeroom demo data added storerooms, but it did not add anything to the storerooms. This does not make a very compelling demo. To do so let’s ask it to create some demo data again.
Here I am prompting it to create some demo data for our application again. You will notice here I am not being very specific in my request. I first want to test the Build Agent to see if it can identify what is missing and add in that demo data without asking specifically for it. My hope is that it can complete this task.
In the screenshot above and below. You can see that it responded that it created demo data for the 3 sample storerooms and added some electronics and office supplies.
I got back to my dashboard and refreshed it and it like:
Welp… it looks the exact same. The Build Agent did not seem to correctly generate the demo data I was hoping for. It does seem to know what I am asking for however, it does not seem to actually be creating it in the right place or relating it together. I am unaware what the issue is at this point. I decided that I should bring up the issue to the Build Agent. I respond back to the build agent saying I do not see the updates in the dashboard as I should. I also was a bit more specific this time saying what values I do not see updated on the dashboard.
It says that it has corrected the issue with the demo data. I decide to go back to the dashboard and give it a quick refresh. Now when I refreshed the dashboard, it looked like this:
Success! The dashboard has been created with all the demo data I was expecting. I can now see my total assets, what is low in stock, how many unique items (product models) I am carrying and the specifics for each storeroom. Next in this series, let’s focus on making this dashboard more visually appealing so we can really get the buy in from this demo.
