Dear ServiceNow Community, 

 

We are writing to share some important news with you regarding our ongoing efforts to enhance the security and performance of our Personal Developer Instances (PDIs).  

 

As part of our commitment to providing the best possible service, we are completing our PDI infrastructure migration by moving an additional 8,000+ PDIs to a new state-of-the-art data center. Please note that this news only impacts you if your PDI resides within those 8,000 that have not yet been migrated. You will receive an email if you are impacted. 

 

Why this Migration Matters 

 

Our new data center is equipped with advanced security measures designed to ensure the highest level of data safety for your PDIs. This upgrade is a significant step forward in our mission to deliver a more secure and efficient development environment for all our users. 

 

We began this process earlier this year, and this last push of 8,000+ instances will complete the migration process. 

 

How will I Know if this Migration Impacts Me? 

 

If your current PDI resides within this pool of 8,000+ instances that will be migrated, we will reach out to you directly via the email associated with your PDI.  If you are a PDI owner and you do not receive an email from us, your PDI already resides in the new data center, and you will not need to release your current one.

 

We understand that this transition might cause some inconvenience for those who are actively using their PDIs. However, this upgrade is essential for enhancing the overall performance and security of our systems. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this critical period.

 

What You Need to Know 

 

To successfully complete this migration, we will be transitioning PDIs from the legacy data center to the new one. As a result, if your current PDI still resides in the old data center, it will be closed, and you will need to request a new one. Here are the key details: 

 

  • Active PDI Access: Your current PDI access remains active until July 10th, 2024. We kindly ask you to save or back up any data or work within your PDIs and voluntarily release it before this date. Once you have done this, you can immediately request a new PDI. 

 

  • Requesting a New PDI: Once you have voluntarily released your PDI, you can then log in to the ServiceNow Developer site and request a new instance, which will automatically open in the upgraded data center.  

 

  • Missing the Deadline: If you have not backed up your data and voluntarily released your PDI by the July 10th, 2024, deadline, ServiceNow will release the PDI on their end shortly thereafter.

How do I voluntarily release my PDI?  

 

  • Start by logging into https://developer.servicenow.com. Once you are in, click on your avatar in the upper right-hand corner. Once you are in the menu, click on “Release Instance”.

How can I export or back up my data? 

 

 

When can I expect to lose access to my current PDI? 

 

  • Please release your current PDI voluntarily as soon as possible. Once you have done this, you can immediately re-open a new one using the Developer site. If you do not voluntarily release your PDI before July 10, your current PDI will be released from your account. 

 

Where do I go to get a new PDI? 

 

  • Once your PDI has been voluntarily released, you may log back in to https://developer.servicenow.com, and press "Request Instance". Follow the instructions to gain access to your new PDI.

I voluntarily released my PDI which was on Washington

I waited for a few days and then went to request a new one.  Unfortunately there are no Washington PDIs available.

The Washington DC PDI seems to back today.

I wonder why we have no way of determining if our PDI is affected. Last time we went through this, to get a PDI in a more secure data center, we were told to look at the URL for "Connected to cluster node:" displayed on the stats.do page. I've had to start new 3-4 times in the last 2 years, I'll do that again if needed but it would be nice if I had definite knowledge I will loose my PDI.

how do you login? I access mine from logging in to developer.servicenow.com. Or do you use the login information from the email received when creating the PDI?

i logging into developer.servicenow.com , earlier i used to open it by since 2 3 day not able to open.

I recently released my PDI and acquired a new one (now in aus191.service-now.com) and today I got another email to do the same again. I wish there was better management of PDIs.

Thank you for the detailed post.  I am new to ServiceNow and it's nice to see not only the advance notice but also the detailed guidance for understanding and mitigating any possible impact to my PDI.
