Hi All,
Today we will see the major difference between Automated and Formula Indicator in PA.
- Automated Indicator is used to calculate the scores based on the condition defined in the Indicator Source attached to it. Formula Indicator can have more than one Automated Indicator in it based on which the actual result will be calculated.
- The Compare Tab is only available for Automated Indicators. Formula Indicator doesn't have the Compare Tab.
- Automated Indicators have the Indicator source to it which decides what data to show, Formula Indicators do not use an Indicator Source
Above are the major difference between the indicators.
Another good question is When is the Formula or Automated Indicator be calculated?
- Formula Indicator is calculated when it is viewed in a Widget or in Analytics Hub
- Automated Indicator is calculated when the job collects the data
Another interesting question is When should we create Formula or Automated Indicator?
- If you want to get the data based on fields/conditions/data in a table/data source, then use the Automated Indicator and connects it to Indicator Source
- If you want to get the data by calculating and putting a formula on the data collected from Automated Indicators, then use Formula Indicator
Another good to know points on Formula Indicator - Does score table store Formula scores?
Answer is no. Score tables do not store formula scores
Hope this helps you to clarify the difference between Automated and Formula Indicator.
Thanks,
