Adding filters to PA dashboards - Text analytics

We are trying to add date and other filters such as category to a PA dashboard. the interactive filters dont work and I am not seeing any options that will help on the indicator screen.

1. See attached for "type of service' this is a subcategory of the general HR category.

2. my indicator is all cases which are closed.complete and last update was this year.  (trying to pull a YTD of all closed cases)

What are we doing wrong to now see any date or other filters on the resulting dashboard?

Hi @Kass3m

  • Not all fields automatically appear as Breakdowns in PA.
  • The breakdowns you see are only the ones defined in the Breakdown definitions (under Performance Analytics > Breakdowns).
  • If you want to use “Type of General Inquiry” or “Created Date” as breakdown filters, you need to:
    1. Create a Breakdown for that field (e.g., a reference or choice field breakdown).
    2. Associate it with the same indicator source your indicator is using.
    3. Then it will show up as an available breakdown on the indicator setup screen.

Example:

  • If your indicator source is HR Case [sn_hr_core_case], and you want a breakdown by Type of General Inquiry:
    • Go to Performance Analytics > Breakdowns > Create New
    • Choose Field breakdown, point it to Type of General Inquiry field
    • Link it to the indicator source
    • Then it will appear in your indicator setup.

So yes — you’ll need to create a new breakdown if it doesn’t exist yet.

Hi @Kass3m

Interactive Filters don’t automatically apply to PA widgets.

For a PA indicator/widget to respond to a filter (Date, Category, etc.), the indicator and breakdowns must be aligned with those fields.

If the indicator doesn’t have a breakdown for “Category” or “Type of Service,” the filter won’t do anything.

Date Filters

For PA specifically:

  • You don’t use interactive filters for date the same way you do in reports.
  • Instead, you define a PA Time Series (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly) on the indicator.

Category and Subcategory (“Type of Service”)

  • If you want the dashboard filter to work by “Category” or “Type of Service,” you need to:
    1. Create a Breakdown Source based on that field (e.g., HR Case.Category, HR Case.Subcategory).
    2. Associate that breakdown with your indicator.
    3. Add the breakdown to your widget or add an interactive filter tied to that breakdown.

Without the breakdown, the filter has nothing to apply to.

@Rafael Batistot very helpful. thanks.

On the breakdown, should all the fields not be available  to pick as filters on the indicator setup screen? We know the case table has created date, and type of general inquiry? Do i have to create a new breakdown.. I attached a screenshot of indicator, and what I see on the breakdown screen, typeofservice.png
