backup bookmarks

This is probably really obvious but is there a way to back up my user customisations before an environmental refresh? Really I just wanting to save the effort of recreating my bookmarks, but now I think about it I wonder if there's any point because the things that they point at may have changed or been removed.

Just wondering if there's a common working practice around this?

The best way is with the use of a "Clone Data Preserver".   This allows you to automatically save data during a clone.   You can filter down the records where "User = Ed Bailey" and your Bookmarks will be saved.   Some may end up pointing to records that no longer exist, but hopefully most will not.

If you go this route, this article may help out as well - "View Data to Preserve" Tool

I like it! Thanks.

Just a shame I have to have my role reapplied after each clone.

What do you mean?   Do you only have "admin" or something like that in dev and not in production?   You can handle that in a data preserver as well.   Just preserve the User Role record:

Remember, everything is a record in a table somewhere in ServiceNow.

Yes that's correct. Audit dont like too many admins in Prod and I dont really need it for what I do. Thanks for the tip

The wiki suggests that ' Cleanup scripts run after data preservers and the clone is complete.' so would that not mean that it clears out your preserved bookmarks?

That article is not very clear.   As you mentioned, section 6.3 says scripts run after the data preservers, but section 9 suggests the reverse in points 6 and 7.

I just checked the feedback on the article and I had previously asked when exactly the scripts ran so they added that "Cleanup scripts run after data preservers and the clone is complete" part.   I just asked them to take a look at section 9.

You can add feedback to any Wiki article if you are logged in and click on the "Feedback" link up in the top right corner of each article:
