Hi All,

Can anyone suggest what is the best practice if we need to change the assessment criteria of an inherent assessment.

do we have to retire assessment methodology and then change it? or create a new version of the methodology?

Hi @mickydash2001

Yes, you are correct.

- If you create a new methodology and publish it, the existing methodology will indeed be retired.
- The old assessment instances will be related to a retired methodology.
- This change does not directly affect the workflow of the old assessment instances. They will continue to function as they were designed.
- However, any new assessments created after the change will follow the new methodology.
- If you want the old assessments to follow the new methodology, you would need to manually update them or create new instances.
- It's important to note that retiring a methodology does not delete it. It simply prevents it from being used for new assessments.
- If you need to revert to the old methodology, you can retire the new one and republish the old one.

Hi @mickydash2001

The best practice for changing the assessment criteria of an inherent assessment in ServiceNow would be:

- It is not necessary to retire the entire assessment methodology if you only need to change the criteria. Retiring the methodology would mean that it is no longer in use, which is not the case here.
- Instead, you can create a new version of the methodology. This allows you to keep a record of the previous version for reference and comparison purposes.
- In the new version, you can make the necessary changes to the assessment criteria.
- Once the changes are made, you can set the new version as the active one. This means that it will be used for all future assessments.
- Remember to thoroughly test the new version before setting it as active to ensure that it works as expected.
- Also, communicate the changes to all relevant stakeholders to ensure that everyone is aware of the new assessment criteria.

Hi @Karthiga S

Thanks for the response.

what if we already have assessment instances running for old criteria. what need to be considered if we have a fix script to update all existing assessment instances with new methodology.

Hi @mickydash2001

The old instances will follow the existing assessment criteria. If possible, Why can't we leave the old one's as it is and look out applying new methodology for the upcoming assessments.

The idea of updation is completely depends on the new methodology to be acquired. Could you please provide more details about it? Are we adding more metrics for the new assessments?

@Karthiga S

no we are just changing the assessment criteria max limit. We are not able to edit as Risk Assessment and Methodology is in published state,

if we create new methodology and publish it, the existing assessment methodology will be in retired state right? So the old assessment instances will be related to a retired methodology. would that affect its workflow?
