Just wondering, with a Catalog Item container Start variable, there is a layout option with 3 choices (in our instance)
1. 1 column wide,
2. 2 columns wide, alternating sides and
3. 2 columns wide, one side then the other.
My question is: How (if at all) can I get more options? I would like to have an option to have 3 or 4 columns
Carl

As far as I know, you cannot create a catalog item container that has more than 2 columns. You could probably use a custom UI Macro/Page or use some sort of CMS front-end, but I haven't done that myself.

You can create 3 columns on a catalog item by nesting containers inside each other

That's right Neil. Not sure there is a real limit to the amount of nesting that you can do.
Your clients screen resolution requirements will drive what is acceptable. I believe I've tested out to 6 & 8 column layouts and stopped. Started to get real UGLY on screen and in the variable setup.

Hi Chrisopher
Personally i don't like the nesting option as its a nightmare to maintain.
I'd prefer additional options on the SC where you the admin state the number columns to use in a container.
