Device Type - Hardware Asset Management

Hi,

We have both Laptop and Desktop within our Computer table. We have made use of a custom attribute created within Computer table to differentiate this as of today.

Now we have started using Hardware Asset Management Professional, and OOTB within Hardware Product table there is an attribute named "Device Type" which has identical values as Desktop Computer etc.

Can we leverage this Device type to differentiate between Laptop and Desktop? If so how can we have this relationship like how is it tied to a computer record?

Device type is a field from the model table (see here). You can and even should use it to differentiate - that's why it was added 🙂
Here you will find some more information about how assets are connected to the CIs. And here is some information about models.

You can assign a model to an asset and to a configuration item.

Hello @Surbhi Srivasta ,

Its display value is Device type but its part of normalisation
please find below display value and back end value of that field :

Please check in the normalization tab of the models

Hi @CezaryBasta @Amarjeet Pal ,

My bad and apologies for not specifying it.

I cannot see Normalization tab itself on the model record. Also cannot find Device Type attribute.

Hence checking is it because I have not opted in for computer resource category? or I am missing something here?

Hello @Surbhi Srivasta ,

Check for this plugin com.glide.data_services_canonicalization.client is it activated ?

Thanks

Amarjeet Pal

Hi @Amarjeet Pal ,

I have cross checked now and the mentioned plugin "com.glide.data_services_canonicalization.client" is already installed on my instance

Any other pointers to check?

@Amarjeet Pal  - There was a custom component written to hide the tab. Thanks for the help
