Do in progress update sets get carried from the source instance to the target?

Does anyone know 100% one way or another if you have update sets that are in progress in a source instance and you clone over a target instance, will all of those update sets and configurations get copied over in the same way as if the update set was created in that other instance?

I am not worried about keeping update sets in the target instance, I need to know if the update sets from the source instance will move down via a clone.

Have you looked at your clone profile? But also why?  What's the benefit? or problem solved?  I don't think it's very common to use subprod instance as a source.
