Does updating preferred_language on sys_user table updates the session language for user

Hi Team,
When we update preferred_language on sys_user table , it is not updating the session language of the user. Is this expected behaviour?
If yes ,Any idea why ServiceNow doesn't provide this feature. What can we do, if we want the session language to update based on referred_language on sys_user table for that user.
