Tuesday
Hello Community,
I am reaching out to seek guidance as I am preparing for the ServiceNow Associate Technical Support Intern role. The hiring process is scheduled to begin in just a few days, and I would like to make the most of the remaining time by focusing on the right areas.
To share a bit of background, I have successfully completed my CSA and CAD certifications and also hold a good understanding of computer fundamentals. While I have been preparing for the platform concepts, I am still looking for clarity on how best to approach the upcoming rounds.
Specifically, I would like to understand:
=>Which areas are most important to revise for the technical interviews, particularly from a support and platform perspective?
=>Any preparation strategies or resources that past candidates have found useful.
I would truly appreciate any insights or advice from this community that could help me prepare effectively in the limited time I have.
Thank you in advance for your support.

Hi @22me1a4234
I’m a ServiceNow trainer and happy to share my thoughts on this. ServiceNow is becoming increasingly broad and deep these days, and the best way to kickstart your journey is by earning the CSA (Certified System Administrator) certification. The CSA provides a solid understanding of the platform, its terminology, and core modules. Once you get hands-on experience with the platform through CSA, you can decide on your next path.
Employers value professionals with experience across multiple modules, so it’s important to expand your knowledge and add more products to your portfolio. Consider focusing on areas like ITSM, GRC, HRSD, CSM, or SecOps.
Currently, the training is free, which is a fantastic opportunity. However, the real challenge is gaining hands-on experience. To overcome this, the ServiceNow community is an excellent resource. Dedicate at least 1-2 hours a day engaging with the community — read questions others are asking and contribute your own responses. Over time, this will improve your skills and boost your confidence.
Additionally, mastering scripting is essential if you want to become a developer. There are many courses and exercises available on developer.servicenow.com to help you practice and enhance your scripting skills, which will strengthen your portfolio.
Start with the CSA certification and then choose your next step based on your interests — whether that’s development, becoming a Business Analyst, Change Manager, or Project Manager. A solid foundation will give you the flexibility to pursue any domain you prefer.
If my response proves useful, please indicate its helpfulness by selecting " Accept as Solution" and " Helpful." This action benefits both the community and me.

Hi @22me1a4234
As you already mentioned, you've completed CSA and CAD, but is that sufficient?
I would say no, and that’s the reason I made the earlier comment.
As a trainer, I can confidently say — build your portfolio as I suggested above.
Certifications are a good start, but showcasing real-world use cases, projects, or custom apps will truly set you apart.
=>Which areas are most important to revise for the technical interviews, particularly from a support and platform perspective?
Atul:
Make sure to brush up and strengthen your basic concepts like:
-
Scripts (both client-side and server-side)
-
Client Scripts
-
Business Rules – their purpose and different execution types
These are essential because nowadays, interviews are heavily scenario-based — they rarely ask direct or straightforward questions.
Brush up on your CSA training and its core concepts.
Go through blogs, watch YouTube videos, and try to get a deeper understanding of the ServiceNow platform.
The platform has become very broad and deep, so you need to push your boundaries to stay competitive.
Relying only on CSA and CAD certifications won't be enough unless you have strong hands-on experience or a solid portfolio of projects to back you up.
If my response proves useful, please indicate its helpfulness by selecting " Accept as Solution" and " Helpful." This action benefits both the community and me.

Refresh ServiceNow fundamentals on-demand course as that is the foundation for your interview
You can go through scripting and development concepts as it would help you with any ServiceNow modules and definitely with Technical Support role you have applied,
https://developer.servicenow.com/dev.do#!/learn/learning-plans/zurich
Register and get a free PDI to practice what you learn as hands-on would be the most essential part of preparation phase
Register with ServiceNow University and go through on-demand course contents related to intern role
https://learning.servicenow.com/
Developer learning plans are easier to understand the modules compared to official documentation and would recommend to start learning in phases, start with New to ServiceNow and later ServiceNow Administration followed by ServiceNow Application Developer,
https://developer.servicenow.com/
Go through ITSM and Application Development Fundamentals on-demand courses to refresh the concepts
If you need any help, you can post in communities and experts can guide you.
Check ServiceNow community for interview based questions and expand the search to Google and you will find more questions. To differentiate yourself from other candidates, try to understand complex concepts like how do you clone instances and how do you troubleshoot slow performance of an instance and imagine any real time issues with ServiceNow platform and various ways to troubleshoot it.
Congratulations on your CSA & CAD certifications and wish you good luck for the interview !
If this helped to answer your query, please mark it helpful & accept the solution.
Thanks,
Bhuvan
