Hide categories in SC Categories widget

I would like to edit my clone of the sc_categories widget so that it does not display the list of Categories until a Catalog is selected; I don't want it to display all Categories in all Catalogs. Is there a way to do this?

Sarah, 

Just to provide the detail.. you could have saved the clone/edit of the widget and created a message in the System UI > Messages table for "Catalogs" and it would have updated there... and anywhere else that getMessage("Catalogs") was called...but you could have changed that without editing the widget!
