How do I make dot-walked fields always available in Personalize List Columns?

I need to be able to allow users to select dot-walked fields whenever they want to personalize their list columns. When they click the cogwheel and the Personalize List Columns window appears, certain dot-walked fields should be available to pick in the Available column at all times, without having to do Configure -> List Layout. If they removed something from Selected, it should be available to pick from Available again whenever they want.

Right now, if I remove something from the Selected column, the field doesn't stay in the Available column. I have to do Configure -> List Layout every time (this is on a related list).

Users in prod do not have access to the Configure button to configure their list layout, so this is not a solution I can give them. I need this to be a change that is captured in an update set that will be applied to ALL users.

Apologies I missed that. I'm afraid then there is no direct way.

Alternate options would be to create a report / view and share with the users.

Hi there,

If you are using SNUtils...

Double click anywhere in the whitespace, it will change the popup a bit. Amongst others, bottom right "Add dotwalk field" will be visible. Here you can literally type the field to dotwalk.

Hi Mark,

Unfortunately I do not have this option. I've actually never seen this before.

When you configure a List Layout, your are setting the Default Fields/Columns for that List's View.
However, users can personalize a list - which means they no longer see the Default Fields/Columns, they see the Fields/Columns that they chose by Personalizing the List.

Anytime a User navigates to that List and they are they are looking at that same View, if they have not Personalized that View, then they will see the Default Fields/Columns that are configured for that View.
However, if a User has already Personalized that List View > they do not see the Default Fields/Columns in the List that you configured, unless they Reset their Personalized View of that List to the Default Fields/Columns of that List that you just Configured.

Steps to Test:
1. As an Admin: Go to any list, and make note of the View you are using.
Ensure that you are viewing the Default Fields/Columns. (List is not personalized)
Write down the fields in order from Left to Right.

Impersonate 2 separate Users who can view that same List View, but are unable to Configure the List Layout.
They should have the ability to personalize a List View.

For User #1:  (Default List View User)
Impersonate the User and check to see if they have personalized the List View
If the Personalize List (Gear) Icon has a Blue Dot on it, then that User has already Personalized the List's View's Fields/Columns away from the Default/Configured Fields/Columns.
If that is the Case, you need to revert this User so that they are seeing the Default Fields/Columns, so that you can see when you later Configure the List, this Users List View will be updated to the Default/Configured Fields/Columns.
So, select the List Personalize (Gear) Icon, and when the Slush Bucket UI Modal opens, you will see a UI Action in the bottom, left-hand side of the Slush Bucket: Reset to Column Defaults.
Select that Button to Re-Set User #1's View to the currently Default Fields/Columns.
This User see the the Default Fields/Columns after you configure the list, simply be refreshing the page.

For User #2: (This User should have personalized the List View's Fields/Columns)
Impersonate the User and check to see if they have personalized the List View.
If the Personalize List (Gear) Icon has a Blue Dot on it, then that User has already Personalized the List's Fields/Columns.
If that is the case, make note of what Fields/Columns this User sees, and write them down.
They should be different set of fields/order, than what you are going to Configure below as the admin user.

As an Admin:
Go back to the List and Configure the List Layout > Configure the List View's Default Fields/Columns.
If you have also personalized the list, reset to the Column Defaults and ensure that you see the Default Fields and Columns.
Do you see the same Fields/Columns in the List View that you just configured using Configure > List Layout?
You should, because you are looking at the Default Fields/Columns, because you haven't Personalized the List.
Ergo, if you configure the Default Fields/Columns for the List, and you're viewing the Default (non-personalized) Fields/Columns, then you should see the same Fields and Columns in the same Order that you just Configured.

Re-Impersonate User #1:
This is the User who should be seeing the Default Fields/Columns.
Navigate back to the List.
Do you see the same Fields/Columns that you just configured as an admin?  You should, because this User - like your admin user - is viewing the Default Fields and Columns for the List's View - because they haven't personalized the List.

Re-Impersonate User #2:
This is the User who WILL NOT see the Default Fields/Columns that you configured, because they had already/previously Personalized the Fields/Columns of the List's View.
Navigate back to the List.
Do you see the same Fields/Columns that you just configured as an admin?  You should NOT.
You should see the same Fields/Columns that this User had Personalized before you re-configured the Default Fields/Columns for this List's View.
The reason they see their Personalized Columns is because they have Personalized the List's View's Fields/Columns.
For that User to go back to seeing the Default Fields/Columns, that User has to say "Reset me."

Now, as User 2:  Reset this User to see the Default Fields/Columns of the List's View.
Impersonate the User > Nav back to the List.
Select the Personalize List (Gear) Icon.
Select the Reset to column defaults UI Action.
Do you see the same Fields/Columns that you just configured as an admin?  You should, because as this User, you just told the System the forget about your Personalization, and that you now want it to show you the Default, Configured Fields and Columns for this List's View.
