Hi everyone,
I came across the term “Level 4 ServiceNow Developer” in a job description and was wondering what it specifically means. Does ServiceNow officially define developer levels (like Level 1 to Level 4), or is this something companies use internally?
I’d appreciate any insights into what skills, responsibilities, or experience typically correspond to a Level 4 ServiceNow Developer.
Thanks!

Hello PoonkodiS,
This most likely is internal to that specific company. Normally how it works is the higher the level, the more advanced skills they are expecting. So level 4 would probably be a very senior developer. They should have posted some additional requirements that give you an idea of the expected work. I would use that as a guide to determine your fit for the position.
The only levels that I am aware of within ServiceNow are the career journey badges. There are 3 levels which are Associate Application Developer, Professional Application Developer, and Expert Application Developer. You can find out more about the developer career journey here.
I hope this helps!

Hi @PoonkodiS
No, this is not a ServiceNow standard.
It's just dumb writing by the person who wrote the ad. Naively thinking that anyone cares about their internal grading processes.

That is the problem @PoonkodiS .
Based on what's in the job post, none of us have any idea because we don't know what Level 4 means at that company

Hi @PoonkodiS
You can try something that often works: look for someone on LinkedIn who works in that company and in the same domain, or check within your circle to see if anyone knows about the company or the role. This can help you get a better understanding.
The concept of “levels” is not standardized across the industry — it varies completely from one company to another. Since the role is mentioned as Level 4, check what experience they expect for that level; this will give you a clearer idea of the position.
If my response proves useful, please indicate its helpfulness by selecting " Accept as Solution" and " Helpful." This action benefits both the community and me.

Yes, if you have the recruiter's contacts, I would definitely reach out and ask them.
That will save everybody - most importantly you! - from wasting effort if the job level is not a match for you.
